Evaluation that makes change visible

We’ve created a fairer way to understand impact, one that’s built for communities.
We’ve reimagined evaluation to be more than just a compliance task. It’s a way to reflect on what’s working, understand complexity, and grow meaningful change. For communities, for funders, and for systems.

Why does traditional evaluation fall short

Why does traditional evaluation fall short?

Too often, evaluation is inaccessible, unaffordable, and disconnected from the people and communities doing the mahi.

While funders ask for outcomes and evidence, many organisations are left without the tools or capacity to show the impact of their work. Current models don’t capture the full story - especially in complex, real-world environments.

This creates three common challenges: evaluation is often out of reach for smaller organisations, too narrow to reflect systems change, and not designed for long-term programmes of work.

Become a data-led organisation

At EPIT, we don’t see evaluation as a tick-box exercise. It’s a learning tool - a way to make the invisible visible. It’s a way for not for profits to become data-led organisations.

Our approach supports organisations to measure impact in ways that are timely, inclusive and grounded in COMMUNITY. That means evaluation that reflects community context, supports better decision-making, and helps tell stories that matter.

We work in partnership with organisations, not over them - creating frameworks and tools that are flexible, affordable, and genuinely useful.

You can explore this in practice through our reports.

How our evaluation journey works
No two organisations or communities are the same. That’s why we take a flexible, responsive approach grounded in the wayfinding model. Our process follows three phases, purposeful planning, evidence gathering, and impact assessment, each with clear steps that help you stay on course and adapt as you go.
1

Preparing the waka

Set a shared direction by clarifying your kaupapa, purpose and who’s on the journey.
2

Contribution planning

Map the change you're working towards and how your mahi contributes to it.
3

Navigational signposts

Identify the key indicators or outcomes that help guide and adapt your work.
4

Pūrakau gathering

Collect stories and insights that bring meaning anddepth to your impact.
5

 Charting waypoints

Pause to reflect on what’s emerging and use it to learnand adjust.
6

Building constellations

Bring it all together to show contribution, support storytelling, and guide future action.
Our Solution Evaluation as a Service (EaaS(
Our Solution: Evaluation as a Service (EaaS)
EPIT’s EaaS model brings together evaluation expertise, digital tools and community insight.

We support organisations to measure what truly matters, not just what’s easy to quantify. Our approach helps teams learn and adapt as they go, while building the kind of evidence that supports growth, deepens learning, and unlocksfuture funding.

EaaS sits alongside our Communities of Practice and Transformational Projects as part of a broader strategy for impact. Together, these initiatives create a continuous cycle of insight, action and learning.

What our partners are saying

These stories reflect what happens when evaluation isn’t just a reporting tool - but a way to learn, align, and act together.
“This has helped us to clarify our thinking about what we could do together than we could not do apart… We will be able to work more effectively together to get better outcomes for all our ākonga | students”
— School Principal, Springboard Trust
“By getting to know the actors and co-creating engagement with our activities, we are now able to identify favourable factors that will benefit a young person’s entrepreneurial journey and how partnerships within this ecosystem can support this work”

Real-world impact empowering our youth

Real-world impact: empowering our youth

Shifting the system starts with listening. This project explored how secondary schools in South Auckland are supporting young people, especially Māori and Pasifika, as they navigate the complex path from school into further education, training, or employment.

The challenge

Too many young people, especially Māori and Pasifika learners, face limited support as they transition from school into further study or employment.

The EPIT approach

In 2023, Dr Lynette Reid partnered with EPIT to explore what’s working, and what’s not in South Auckland secondary schools.

The focus: how career development strategies can support diverse, multilingual communities. The evaluation drew on insights from principals, whānau, students, and employers.

The outcome

The research found that structured, whole-of-school approaches, supported by strong leadership and community collaboration, led to more equitable and effective pathways for rangatahi.

This is evaluation in action: not just measuring outcomes, but generating insights that shape real-world decisions.
