Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora I Speak up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

The Nest residents got together yesterday for a morning tea to speak up, stand together and show our support to stop bullying.

What is Pink Shirt Day?

Pink Shirt Day is a global movement to help stamp out bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion. This annual celebration began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying. This year, it will be celebrated on Friday 19 May, and Aotearoa will be awash in a sea of pink as schools, workplaces and communities join the Pink Shirt Day movement.

We threw on a morning tea at The Nest, with our partners Springboard Trust and Tātai Aho Rau | CORE Education to join the movement to spread aroha and kindness in our workplace! The Pink Shirt Day kaupapa aligns closely with three of our values;

  • Whanaungatanga - Engaging in positive and collaborative relationships with learners, their families and whānau, colleagues and the wider community.
  • Manaakitanga - Creating a welcoming, caring and creative learning environment that treats everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Pono - Showing integrity by acting in ways that are fair, honest, ethical and just.

How can you get involved?

  • Wear pink to show your support of the movement and raise awareness about bullying.
  • Be an Upstander, not a bystander. An Upstander is a supportive bystander who uses words/actions that can help someone who is being bullied.
  • Check out the Pink Shirt Day website for more information and lots of resources!

Kua rite koe?  Are you in?
